​Words Beyond the Canvas

The project, WORDS BEYOND THE CANVAS, seeks to create paintings inspired by my late father’s writing, while also shaping a biography portrait of him as an artist and a person, who spent much of his life in the Eastern Townships. 

​

Through 2024 and 2025, I brought together visual arts and written archives to explore and honour David Sorensen’s creative world in my own way.

 

The project unfolded in 3 phases:

- Compilation of David Sorensen’s Writing, 

- Creation of Paintings 

- Crafting a Commemoration Book

​

This work is a heartfelt endeavour that celebrates my father's lesser-known passion for writing, reflects his inquisitive and enthusiastic mind, and provides a deeper understanding of his life and artistic spirit. It also illuminates the lifelong camaraderie he shared with his closest artist friends, with his dedicated letter writing leaving behind a vibrant archive of stories, reflections, and moments — enduring traces of a creative life well lived.
